As a draft report on my action research project is entitled, One Computer to One Student, Is it the Future? The need for this came about when I took over my current position, three years ago, my principal and I started to investigate the idea of one to one ratio. We did this through examining other school districts in Texas that had already begun to implement the one to one ratio.
The future of education is tied to technology and the use of the internet in the classroom setting. The object of this is to determine how to get the internet and technology in the hands of the students to be able to work on them.
I have not organized the literature review that is at school and I am unable to access it at this time, because part of my room is suffering from renovation and I am not allowed in yet. I decided to implement this action research project based on what we had researched in prior years; my principal was involved in the decision to do this research. When I was looking for a topic, I thought it best to examine something I was interested in and that had been in the news.
When discusses this project with other stakeholders, I begin explaining why this ratio is a target and what benefits there are to using computers in the classroom. Sometimes I have to get more detailed in the discussion with those stakeholders that need the additional information.
I have managed most of the responsibilities myself, except when having the teachers distribute and collect the student surveys. Monies spent were mine and I considered them as part of the cost to complete the research.
This past year was a very tumultuous year within the school and district which caused me to change some of the order in which parts of this project were put off until the start of the school year. I use data to show success of the implementation of one to one ratio, and to show if the one to one ratio is something that people will want in our school.
Students with special needs will benefit from having a computer that can be programmed with computer programs for the benefit of that special need student. Those students of diverse backgrounds regardless of how they are diverse (culture, ethic, economic, etc.). Examining any technology problems facing the school will be addressed through an evaluation of technology currently in the school.
